A map of Wokingham Borough with Twyford, Ruscombe & Hurst ward highlighted

Twyford, Ruscombe & Hurst Ward

Election boundaries are changing with 18 new wards across Wokingham Borough, each represented by 3 councillors. As a part of this, the previously separate wards of Twyford and Hurst will combine into a single ward also including Ruscombe. This year at the local elections you can vote for 3 councillors for this new ward called Twyford, Ruscombe & Hurst. In future, you will get a vote 3 times in 4 years, voting for one of the councillors.

Parliamentary constituencies are also being realigned and at the next general election, people in Twyford, Ruscombe and Hurst will be voting as part of the Wokingham constituency and not Maidenhead. When the next general election comes, you will have the choice of Clive Jones as the Lib Dem candidate for Wokingham - a new champion for Twyford, Ruscombe and Hurst - or John Redwood.

Improvements to Twyford station are being planned

GWR managers have followed up their recent meeting with Lindsay Ferris and Stephen Conway by confirming their commitment to addressing the concerns we raised about bus, cycle, and pedestrian access to the station, car park security and expansion, and secure cycle storage.

The Council and GWR are working together on a plan to make improvements to our station. A further meeting with GWR is scheduled for later this month.

Our new library is on it's way

Our new library is coming along nicely. Roof re-tiling is underway and completion of the refurbishment and construction work is on course to take place in time for opening in the spring.

The project is not just on track, it's on budget, which is a considerable achievement in these inflationary times.

"This has come about after years of effort by many people. The new Lib Dem administration at Wokingham has delivered this new community facility.”

Additional places at Piggot senior school

There’s good news for our area with additional places being funded at the Piggott senior school! “This will help many families in Twyford and surrounding areas and is a good example of Lib Dems listening to people's concerns,” says Lib Dem campaigner Yonni Wilson.

Rural Pie

Outdoor seating for Rural Pie, a much-loved local business. After a lot of pushing by local councillors, Waitrose head office eventually agreed terms with Rural Pie. This should increase footfall in the village centre when the weather gets warmer, which will benefit all of the nearby local businesses.

Active travel gets a boost at The Piggott school

Six new green-roofed bike shelters have been installed at The Piggott school. The shelters are covered with a tough, low maintenance, succulent plant that absorbs rainwater and soaks up carbon dioxide and other pollutants from the atmosphere, adding further benefit to the environment. “This is so good for the environment and the pupils that cycle to school,” says Lib Dem Wargrave campaigner Yonni Wilson. “Active travel is so important for health and well-being; it can reduce car journeys and so improve air quality. It helps to
combat the climate emergency.”

Bus routes 127, 128 and 129 saved

The Borough Council has given subsidised bus routes a funding boost to keep them going until at least 31st August 2026. This includes the 127, 128 and 129 services that operate through Winnersh from Wokingham to Twyford station  here it connects with the Elizabeth Line. This funding, also supported by Winnersh Parish Council, will provide certainity to residents and businesses in the area.
