Clive Jones follows up with LINK for an update on the Wokingham banking hub
The closure of banking facilities in Wokingham town centre has been a significant issue for the many people who prefer to bank in-person instead of online. Clive Jones, Wokingham’s MP, has met with representatives from LINK several times with the aim of establishing an in-person banking hub.
Clive Jones, the MP for Wokingham, said:
“I met with LINK again in a Zoom call to receive an update on the Wokingham’s application for a banking hub
“A banking hub is an essential service for the people of Wokingham, and would not only provide a reliable in-person option for those who do not wish to use online banking, but also would increase footfall in the town centre, giving a boost to local businesses.
“I’m grateful for the work that the former Town Mayor Lynn Forbes has done to try to get a banking hub in Wokingham, she’s done a great job.
“I will continue to press for this vital service for Wokingham town, and look forward to meeting with LINK again soon to discuss their final decision.”
The APPG for the Future of Financial Services have recently launched an inquiry into banking access and would welcome contributions from people, local businesses and organisations in Wokingham on the issues around access to banking.
Their Call for Evidence for this inquiry is available here. The deadline for submissions is Friday 22 November.
