My wife and I moved  to Twyford in 1988 with our two children. Twyford and the Borough of Wokingham has been a good place for us, and for our children to grow up in. We have enjoyed the village community, the local environment, the good schools and transport links.

My wife was a headteacher at several State secondary schools and our children attended local State schools. Professionally, I have had a varied and successful career in the aviation industry and was involved as a technical expert with Regulatory bodies at a national and international level.

My  hobbies include aviation and railways, both full size and models. Fitness is important  for us all, so I use the gym, do Park Runs, ski and cycle, and have completed the odd triathlon.

I have also become active in local politics, having  been a member of the Twyford Parish Council for the last  seven years. I  would now like to expand my political horizon and become part of the Liberal Democrat team in Wokingham Borough Council. The Lib Dem ethos very much fits with my personal one. If elected I would work towards maintaining and enhancing the quality of life for those living and working in the Borough, in as sustainable a manner as possible.

Originally from The Netherlands I came to live in the UK to study in 1988 at Reading University and then Imperial College in London. In 2001 I relocated overseas with my wife and spent the next 16 years working in the USA, Oman and Nigeria. We returned in 2015 with our three children choosing to live in Twyford due to the proximity of the river Thames and good transport connections to London.

Twyford, Ruscombe and Hurst have experienced many changes over the years and will continue to evolve in the future. It is important that our villages retain their unique characters despite these changes. Pressures from parking, overdevelopment and increased traffic are considerable. I like to ensure that local residents have a voice when the impact of these are assessed and trade-offs are considered.

I have been a member of the Twyford Parish Council since 2022. Now I want to join the great Lib Dem team at Wokingham Borough Council to protect our green spaces, avoid over-development and enhance opportunities for our communities.

I know Twyford very well, having lived here for over 35 years. I have been honoured to represent the village on Wokingham District and then the Borough Council from 1994 to 2012, when I stood down due to work commitments. I returned as one of Twyford's Wokingham Borough Councillors in 2019 and have been leader of the council since 2023.

I have worked hard for Twyford over the years, doing my best to represent and help residents. During the pandemic and its aftermath, I secured grants for local businesses and found the funding for a series of feel-good concerts in the village centre. I started the campaign for our new library and am looking forward to seeing it open later this spring.  I have been working for a comprehensive approach to parking problems in the village. I’m committed to defending the ward against inappropriate development and ensuring new housing in our Borough is built to high environmental standards with the necessary local infrastructure delivered on-time.

I have the experience, energy, and enthusiasm to promote and protect our village, its residents and businesses in the years ahead. I’m looking forward to working as a team with the other Lib Dem candidates for Twyford, Ruscombe and Hurst, to make sure your voice is heard, as we continue to make Wokingham Borough a great place to live.
