I have lived in Wokingham for nine years. My work in the community has included a successful campaign to get a splash pool in the new Leisure Centre and I was also the founder of the Friends of Fox Hill Group which is dedicated to the protection of Fox Hill Woodlands. It is now a successful community group that carries out regular conservation working parties creating dead hedges, clearing invasive species and restoring the woodland to his natural state. I am the lead volunteer at the Woosehill Toddler Group and, with other volunteers, I strive to make it a welcoming group for all. Wokingham really has a lot to offer and is a fantastic place to live and work. It is important that we don’t take that for granted and work hard to keep it that way. I am passionate about activities and events for children, environmental initiatives, parks and recreation, and community wellbeing. That is why I am standing as a borough councillor; my skills and experience would suit working on inclusive events, especially for children and families and environmental issues that affect the immediate and wider community.

I have lived in Woodley since 1986 and worked in finance departments in private companies and public organisations, retiring in 2021 after 12 years in the pharmaceutical industry.

I was a member of Woodley Town Council for Loddon Airfield for 4 years 2019-2023 and between 1987 and 1991 represented Loddon on Wokingham District Council. I led the way on the installation of smoke alarms in Council Houses and, with the help of many residents, secured the installation of a traffic island at the northern end of Loddon Bridge Road with a petition of 1000 people. While I was on Woodley Town Council I persuaded landowners to install cycle racks at the Loddon Vale Centre and have campaigned for the Charvil – Twyford cycleway that will benefit the London Airfield Ward. From 2020 to 2023 I picked litter about once a week in 4 small Town Council parks, doing my bit to help our environment, and have been a member of WASP (Woodley Adopt a Street Project) since 2023.

If elected, I would be approachable and available to help residents as their local champion. I would also push for safe cycle routes between Woodley and Reading town centre and to Twyford station.

I have loved living in our borough since 2004 with my husband and daughter. Before this I lived and worked in my country of birth, Uganda, first as a university librarian and later supporting local women’s groups. In Britain I worked caring for elderly and vulnerable people, but have now retired from this important and rewarding role.

In May 2019 and again in May 2023, I was honoured to be elected as an Earley Town Councillor. I really enjoy taking part in our Town Council meetings, helping to make our community an even better place in which to live. I believe that my own background and experience has helped me to be an effective advocate for people whose voices have sometimes not always been heard and would very much look forward to helping them and all our residents if elected as one of your Councillors for Loddon.
