Basit Alvi

I moved to Wokingham 4 years ago with my family and currently serve in a senior leadership role for a multinational organisation in the technology sector. My expertise lies in digital transformation, with a special focus on strategic growth and customer excellence.

I am an enthusiastic supporter of Wokingham's vision to enhance the town for both current and future residents. With a strong commitment to turning this vision into action, I aim to contribute to shaping policies that improve the overall quality of life for everyone in Wokingham.

As a town councillor, I have been working with Rachel and Imogen to address complaints related to anti-social behaviour, and to improve the safety of the area around St Cecilia play area.

I have a particular fondness for green spaces and dynamic festivals in Wokingham. As a dedicated member of the community, I support the Council's efforts to create environmentally friendly and sustainable facilities and events. It is my goal to work diligently to ensure that the Council's initiatives align with these principles.

Rachel Bishop-Firth

Executive Member for Resident Services, Inclusion and Fighting Poverty

I live in Emmbrook with my family. My children went to local schools. I love living here and being involved in the community. I’m involved with many community groups and helped start Wokingham Pride and the local Refill scheme to prevent plastic pollution. Since being elected as a borough councillor for Emmbrook in 2019 I’ve had the opportunity to help hundreds of people with a wide variety of issues.

I’ve also been serving as the Executive Member for Equalities, Inclusion and Fighting Poverty since May 2022, working to ensure that everyone in Wokingham can access the services which they need and on the council’s response to the Cost of Living crisis. During this time the Lib Dems have established the Hardship Fund, which has seed funded a number of longer term projects to fight poverty.  We’ve worked with voluntary and community partners to distribute emergency government funding including the Winter Warmers project which turned £60,000 of investment into over a million pounds worth of benefit to residents.

Executive Member for Finance and Governance

I grew up and went to school in Wokingham. I live locally with my family and am the Executive Member for Finance at Wokingham Borough Council. I also serve on Wokingham Town Council and am keen to see the town thrive and be a great place to live.

I’ve represented Emmbrook residents on Wokingham Borough Council since 2017 and as the Executive Member for Finance, I am responsible for ensuring that Wokingham Borough Council is managing its finances in what are very difficult circumstances. Central government decisions have put overwhelming pressure on Wokingham Borough Council's budget, forcing spiraling costs. We have managed to bring down the level of Council debt that we inherited while keeping the council stable and ensuring that our funds are spent supporting those in the most need.

Under the Liberal Democrats, the town council has been fighting inappropriate development, installing recycling bins, upgrading local play areas, tackling anti-social behavior, maintaining its market and parks as well as supporting many of the events that make our town a great place to live.

As well as being a Councillor, I work in the IT industry. I can regularly be seen walking my dog in the area.
