Improve Woodley Garden Plans

Residents say NO to the garden proposal – it needs to be better planned

Many residents are concerned that the planned planting for the Town Centre garden is unsuitable for the existing conditions – they may survive, but they won’t thrive!

“We need to think about a different planting scheme, such as wildflowers in small areas, as they do not require a rich soil.” Lib Dem town councillor Cllr Beth Rowland explained. “Breaking up the space with a curved path and some hard landscaping could provide seating in the shade and somewhere to meet friends.”

We, the undersigned, ask that the use of the walled ‘garden’ in Woodley centre is reconsidered by Wokingham Borough Council and Woodley Town Council as it is unsuitable for the planned planting due to:

  • Its concrete and tarmac substructure
  • The shade from the trees creating dry conditions
  • The 13 manholes on the site that need to be kept accessible
  • The lack of a water supply.
