Tory Plans to Close a Wokingham Secondary School Revealed

Tory-controlled Wokingham Borough Council plans to close a Wokingham secondary school have been revealed in a submission to Government seeking funding to rebuild the borough's secondary schools.
Councillor Prue Bray (Leader of the Liberal Democrat Councillor Group and councillor for Winnersh ward) said, "I wholeheartedly support the Council's bid for Government money to rebuild the borough's secondary schools. But when I read the documents, it became clear that the Tories plan to close one of our schools.
"At the moment we have eight secondary schools. The Council's report states that a new secondary school will be built in the south of the borough, but that there will still only be eight schools in total. What that means is one of our existing schools will have to close.
"At the Wokingham Borough council executive meeting last night, I asked the executive member for Children's Services, Cllr Norman Jorgensen, which school will close. Unsurprisingly, given the furore over the Tories' past proposals to close Emmbrook School, Norman sidestepped the issue.
"He did say that any school closure would have to be preceded by a full consultation process. Let's hope that it won't be a repeat of the disastrous process that led to the closure of Ryeish Green School."
