West Berkshire Lib Dem Leader Jeff Brooks has lambasted the ruling Tories on the Council for failing 50% of the targets they set for the past year. (Burghfield, Mortimer and Sulhamstead in Wokingham Constituency all fall within West Berkshire's council area).

It is widely forecast in the press that the price of recyclable material, including most forms of plastic, is set to increase dramatically. For example The Times stated on 11 August that "With plastic processing advances in the coming months, yoghurt pots, bags, food packaging and any plastic containers will be even more sought after as manufacturers recycle plastic to avoid buying oil". The Liberal Democrats are therefore urging West Berkshire Council to consult with waste contractors Veolia as a matter of urgency with a view to increasing the range of plastics collected for recycling whenever it becomes practicable to do so.

There were raised eyebrows at last night's Wokingham Borough Council meeting when leading Tories revealed they had not yet decided what to do with the Ryeish Green School site. The information came out as a result of a question from Cllr Prue Bray (Leader of the Liberal Democrat Councillor Group and councillor for Winnersh ward).

At last night's Wokingham Borough Council meeting at Shute End, Wokingham Liberal Democrats continued their opposition to the Core Strategy. The Strategy defines four major sites in Wokingham Borough for new house building together with the number of houses proposed for them.

At last night's Wokingham Borough Council meeting, Liberal Democrat and Conservative councillors united to call on the Government to scrap their decision to increase car tax retrospectively. The Conservatives submitted a motion about car tax, but the Liberal Democrats suggested an amendment to strengthen the wording, which was accepted by the Tories.

Leading Liberal Democrats from Reading and neighbouring councils have met to agree a common approach to dealing with the recent Briscoe Report, which recommends transport solutions for Reading.

Liberal Democrats were furious when Wokingham Tories axed the hedge-cutting service to elderly and disabled tenants earlier this year. Following pressure from Lib Dem councillors, the Council reinstated the service to a number of tenants whose hedges overhang roads and pavements and which seriously impede traffic and pedestrians.
